Christopher Lawrence grew up in San Diego's North County. He began volunteering with the Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Explorer in 1999. He served at the Poway Station for 2 ½ years. Christopher joined the Sheriff's Office in 2005 as a Deputy Sheriff and attended the 66th San Diego Regional Academy. As a Deputy Sheriff, he was assigned to the Vista Courthouse, Poway Station, North Coastal Area Detectives, the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force and the Criminal Intelligence Detail.

In November of 2016, Christopher was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He was assigned to the San Diego Courthouse, Valley Center Substation, the East County Gang Street Team and the Threat Assessment Group before being promoted to Lieutenant in March 2021. After his promotion he was assigned to the Communications Center and the North Coastal Station.

In April of 2023, he was promoted to Captain, and was assigned to the North Coastal Station where he served as the station commander for the cities of Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and unincorporated community of Rancho Santa Fe. He later served as the Captain of the Sheriff's Major Crimes Division.

In November of 2024, Christopher was promoted to the rank of Commander. He now oversees the Sheriff's seven detention facilities within the Detention Services Bureau.

Christopher possesses a bachelor's degree of science in Criminal Justice Management. He is a graduate of the POST Supervisory Leadership Institute, and the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) in Boston, Massachusetts. Christopher is married, a father to two daughters, and a son.
