Greg Seward was appointed as a Legal Advisor to Sheriff Kelly Martinez in 2023.  He is responsible for providing legal advice to the Human Resource Services Bureau (Internal Affairs, Employee Relations, Medical Liaison Unit, Risk Management, Personnel and Training).

Greg provides legal opinions on a variety of employment-related issues affecting the Department. He reviews personnel policies and procedures for legal compliance and best management practices, he responds to Pitchess motions and attends the hearings, and he produces training bulletins for management. He advocates the Department's position at hearings before the Civil Service Commission. His current areas of emphasis include employment laws and policies, labor relations, Public Safety Officer Procedural Bill of Rights, and disciplinary hearings.

Greg earned his Juris Doctor degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences and a minor in Political Science from the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. 

Greg is a member of the California State Bar and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Southern District of California.
