Incarcerated Person Status Notifications
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is a participant in the VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) program. VINE is an anonymous service provided at no cost to the public for the purpose of providing notification when certain changes occur to an inmate’s custody status. This service has been introduced in San Diego County in part through a grant from the California State Sheriff’s Association.
Users are able to register an e-mail address and/or telephone numbers in order to be notified when an incarcerated person is released, is pending release (for sentenced incarcerated persons with scheduled release dates), or when transferred to a facility in another county or state prison.
How to Register with Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE)
To take advantage of this system:
- Search for the incarcerated person through the Sheriff's Who's In Jail site.
- Once you locate the correct incarcerated person, click their name to view the incarcerated person's information page.
- About halfway down the page, you will see a link to register for incarcerated person status notifications. Click on that link.
- A new browser window will open giving you access to the VINE web site. Simply follow the directions to register your email and/or phone numbers.
- Please Note: When registering with VINE, please make certain you enter your email address and/or phone number correctly. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department will not know if you have entered incorrect information, and an entry error will prevent you from getting important notifications.
You may also register by calling VINE toll-free at 877-411-5588, or by going directly to the VINE website.
Please note: Using the incarcerated person's booking number is the best way to register at VINE.
Marsy’s Law
On November 4, 2008, the voters of the State of California approved Proposition 9, the Victims’ Bill of Rights Act of 2008: Marsy’s Law. This measure amended the California Constitution to provide certain rights to crime victims.
The rights described in Marsy’s Law involve many different entities within the criminal justice system. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is able to help meet these rights as they relate to defendants in Sheriff's custody. Information relating to pending legal proceedings (Marsy’s Rights #7 and #8) can be found by visiting our Who’s in Jail site, searching for the incarcerated person, and noting any pending court appearances listed at the bottom of the incarcerated person's page.
To register for notifications regarding an incarcerated person's custody status (Marsy’s right #12), visit Vinelink and follow the instructions described above.
