On January 6, 2021, at about 10:45 p.m., deputies at the San Diego Central Jail found an inmate, thirty-three-year-old Omar Arroyo Moreno, unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff immediately performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, Moreno was pronounced deceased at the facility.
Moreno was booked into custody by the San Diego Sheriff's Department on January 6, 2021, and was in custody for the charges of:
647(f) PC – Under the Influence Drugs
11364(a) HS – Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia
The Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. No evidence of foul play was discovered.
The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and completed their reports. They determined the cause of death to be choking with acute methamphetamine intoxication as a contributing factor. The manner of death was determined to be an accident.
