MSheriff-Randike Rand is a San Diego native and attended San Diego State University. He joined the San Diego Sheriff's Office in April of 1999 after graduating from the 36th Corrections Academy. In 2001, Mike was selected for a position as law enforcement deputy sheriff and attended the 49th Regional Police Academy. His first assignment was as a deputy assigned to San Diego Central Jail. Mike continued his career as a patrol deputy assigned to the Lemon Grove Patrol Station. After working in Lemon Grove as a patrol deputy, field training officer and corporal, he transferred to the department's In-Service training Unit where he worked until selected as an Area Investigator back at the Lemon Grove Station.

Mike was promoted to Sergeant in January of 2012. He worked at the Imperial Beach Patrol Station, Emergency Planning Detail, Border Crime Suppression Team and Internal Affairs.

Mike was promoted to Lieutenant in January of 2017 and was assigned to the Court Services Bureau, working at the San Diego Central Courthouse. He was then assigned to the Sheriff's Personnel Division and in April of 2019, Mike was selected by the city of Lemon Grove to be the Lemon Grove Patrol Station Commander. Mike later transferred back to Internal Affairs as the unit manager.

In July of 2021, Mike was promoted to Captain and assigned to the Alpine Patrol Station, which also included commanding the Sheriff's Rural Law Enforcement Division. In March of 2023, Mike was promoted to the rank of Commander and is currently assigned to the Detention Services Bureau. 

As a collateral duty, Mike was selected for the Sheriff's Crisis Negotiations Team where he worked as a team member, team leader and ultimately the team commander for over 13 years.

Mike holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from San Diego State University and a master's degree in Organizational Leadership from National University. Mike is also a graduate of the Sherman Block Leadership Institute, as well as the 279th session of the FBI National Academy.
